History of the formation of the association

Considering the increasing importance of soil science in improving the condition of human societies and the role of scientific associations as non-governmental organizations and NGOs in the scientific and executive development of society, the Iranian Soil Science Association, with the aim of comprehensively introducing these sciences and improving their quality in educational fields, It is research and executive. The mission of this association is to try to expand soil science in theoretical and practical dimensions through publications and mass media, holding specialized and scientific conferences, educational workshops, promotion programs for the general public, think-tank meetings and expert discussions with officials and legislators, in relation to The importance of soil resources in producing crops and providing food security, preserving the health of the environment, optimal use of land, and sustainability of resources is in line with the sustainable development of the country.

History and past activities

Iran Soil Science Association with the name of Soil Science Department Association since 1351 in the Faculty of Agriculture of Tehran University (Karaj) with the aim of greater solidarity between students and teaching members, discussion and exchange of opinions on educational issues and cooperation in organizing conferences and scientific tours with 5 24 members of the board of directors and the membership of the founders were formed, and the first soil science congress was held in Karaj Agricultural College in the same year. This association was registered in 1353 under number 1614 under the name of Soil Science Association. In 1354, with the re-election of the members of the board of directors and the president of the association and the continuation of activities, the second soil science congress was held in Shiraz University. In the 1360-70s, the association did not have significant activity. In 1371, with the efforts and follow-up of the professors of Tehran University and the faculty members of the Soil and Water Research Institute, by holding the 3rd Iran Soil Science Congress at the Faculty of Agriculture in Karaj and forming the first board of directors of the new period by electing 5 main members and two alternate members. , the activity of the association started again and preparations were made for the fourth congress in Isfahan in 1373.

 

Since that year, biennial congresses of the association have been held regularly in different regions of the country. In these meetings, while presenting the latest scientific achievements and research findings of soil science in Iran and the world, with the annual assembly of the association, the activities of each period were explained by the board of directors, and at the appropriate times, elections were held to appoint new members of the board of directors. Is. The final statement of each congress is prepared and approved by the members, which includes expert recommendations in various soil science issues and is sent to relevant organizations for follow-up. Table 1 shows the list of Iranian soil science congresses.

History and past activities

In 2013, after extensive negotiations between the Soil Science Association, the Soil Science Department of Tehran University, and the Soil and Water Research Institute, considering the growing need to pay attention to the place and importance of soil resources in the society and the need to explain as much as possible the role of soil in the economy, health , and the environment of the country, and pursuing the improvement of the organizational position, providing infrastructure, and strengthening and improving policies related to soil resources, the first one-day conference of soil sciences in Tehran University with the presence of more than 70 veterans of soil sciences, managers of soil science departments, and student representatives Directors of the Soil and Water Research Institute and other relevant centers were formed and various topics were investigated. Due to the satisfaction and welcome of the participants in this meeting, it was decided that this conference will be held in the coming years.

 

In 2013, on December 15th (corresponding to December 5th), which has been designated as World Soil Day by the International Union of Soil Sciences, a commemorative ceremony was held by the Department of Soil Science and Engineering of Tehran University in cooperation with the Soil Science Association at the Agricultural Campus of Tehran University. became In this ceremony, the deputy ministers of the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant officials discussed the importance of soil in the society, and a special stamp for World Soil Day was unveiled in Iran. A similar ceremony was also held in 2013 and at the same time as the 10th annual national conference was held at Tarbiat Modares University. Commemorating this day in the coming years is also on the agenda of the Iranian Soil Science Association.
